1781 Cars on Main is a beloved annual event held in the heart of Wethersfield, Connecticut. It was created and named in honor of Detective Robert “Bobby” Garten, a Hartford Police Officer who wore badge number 1781. Bobby was a close friend of the show's founders, who established the event to keep his memory alive.
This family-friendly car show pays tribute to local first responders and supports a cause that holds deep significance within the community. Spectators can enjoy viewing over 100 classic and custom vehicles, savor offerings from local food trucks, and enjoy music provided by DJ Marc the Shark. A raffle will also be held.
The event takes place on Main Street in Old Wethersfield, which will be closed to traffic from Hartford Avenue to Church Street. This area will feature VIP vehicles, a selection of first responder vehicles, a fire truck tribute to Robert “Sharky” Sharkevich Sr., and the Hartford Police boat, Bobby’s Way. Additional vehicles will be on display in the parking lot of First Church, located at 150 Main Street.
The event location carries special significance. Adjacent to First Church is Trinity Parish, where Bobby Garten attended services as a child. Directly behind the church lies the Wethersfield Village Cemetery, where he is laid to rest. Guests are welcome to visit and pay their respects during the event.
All proceeds from the show will benefit the Detective Robert “Bobby” Garten Memorial Fund, preserving his legacy of service and dedication to the community.
